Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about composite decking and cladding.
What is composite decking made from?
EcogenDeck composite boards are made from a blend of wood fibre (WPC — Wood Plastic Composite) and high-density polyethylene, co-extruded with a protective polymer shell. This gives the natural look of timber with the durability and low maintenance of a plastic composite.
How long does composite decking last?
EcogenDeck composite decking is designed for a 15+ year lifespan under normal Australian outdoor conditions. The co-extrusion ranges carry extended warranties due to their protective outer shell, which prevents moisture ingress, fading and staining.
How does it handle Australian heat, UV and harsh weather?
All EcogenDeck ranges are engineered specifically for Australian conditions — high UV exposure, temperature extremes and coastal salt air. The co-extrusion shell contains UV stabilisers that prevent colour fading, while the composite core resists expansion and contraction from heat cycles.
What maintenance does composite decking require?
Minimal. Unlike timber, composite decking never needs oiling, sealing, staining or painting. An occasional wash-down with soapy water is all that’s required to keep it looking its best. No sanding, no recoating — just clean and enjoy.
Is composite decking suitable around pools?
Yes. Our composite decking has a slip-resistant surface texture that makes it well-suited to pool surrounds and wet areas. It’s also moisture-proof and won’t harbour mould or mildew like natural timber can when constantly wet.
What’s the difference between the Co-Extrusion and Eco ranges?
The Co-Extrusion range features an advanced dual-layer construction — a WPC core encased in a protective polymer shell — giving superior scratch, stain and UV resistance with a longer lifespan. The Eco Range is a solid WPC board that delivers excellent value for projects where budget is a priority. Both ranges look great and outlast natural timber.
Can composite cladding be used on exterior walls?
Absolutely. EcogenDeck composite cladding is designed for exterior applications including feature walls, facades, pergolas and privacy screens. It is moisture-resistant, UV-stable and unaffected by rain, humidity or temperature changes that would cause natural timber to warp, split or rot.
